AFP TX, Coastal Bend Chapter: AFP Presentation - Crisis Communications
Crisis Communications
|
We all hope we never need to use a crisis communications plan at our organization. But, we live in the real world. Things happen and we need to be prepared to effectively advocate for our organization in the midst of crisis. Join us for our first professional development session of 2013 as we welcome Katy Kiser/CHRISTUS Spohn Communications Manager to speak about crisis management, communicating effectively with internal and external audiences, and working with the news media. |

About the Presenter:
Katy Kiser, a native Texan was born and raised in Dallas, where she graduated from Bishop Lynch High School. She went on to earn her Bachelor's degree in Mass Communications from Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, and also had the unique opportunity to study abroad at Oxford University in England where she studied Political Science.
Katy began her broadcasting career in Jefferson City, Missouri. After gaining television production experience, she then pursued her on-air career. She accepted a reporting position in Odessa, Texas, which soon led her to a reporter/anchor position in Tallahassee, Florida. From the Florida state capital she covered the 2000 Presidential Election and the subsequent voter recount. Wanting to return home to Texas, Katy accepted a position with KIII, Channel 3 in January 2001.
Ten years in front of the camera in South Texas provided Katy with some unbelievable opportunities. She's flown with the Blue Angels. She's had the chance to interview many world leaders and celebrities. Plus, while on Channel 3's morning show Katy took home two first place honors from the Texas Association of Broadcasters. A little over a year ago, she made the decision to retire from news, and recently took a position at CHRISTUS Spohn where she uses her media skills by acting as a Communications Manager. Active in the community, Katy currently serves as the Board Chair for the Women's Shelter of South Texas and is a graduate student at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. She's also mother to an active and happy 3 year old son named Ethan.
